Wakey to Wakefield.
Wakefields a special place for me – its where I am right now – I’ve always lived in the Wakefield District and its great to see that Wakefield Council is pushing and welcoming change.
Wakey often gets a bit left behind being in the shadow of Leeds but there are some great developments in progress or the pipe-line for us lot in the built environment or developers and speculators to be involved in.
Whether it’s (and this little certainly isn’t everything)…..
The incredible Axiom Development – Axiom Yorkshire – off the M62 in Glasshoughton
Opportunities to redevelop interesting buildings like Wood Street, Police station, which I think had some interest as a hotel, or the crown court in the city centre – marketed and for sale here
The development land opened up by the Eastern Relief Road, Neil Fox way and the City fields Developments around it
Old eyesores are coming down this year like Chantry House to make for new developments whether that’s residential / Retail / Leisure. I think that the Wilkinson site around this area is also currently on the market
Works are finalliy due to start on the Rutland Mills development next to the Hepworth Museum, if you don’t already know it’s going to be a mixed-use creative area with studios and commercial space; retail; restaurants and tons of other things – have a look here. – Which is bound to be a positive step with C4 moving to Leeds.
Wakefield has to be one of the most accessible locations in the UK via road, due to it being at the cross section of M1, A1 and M62 on 2 hours by rail from London.
I’m very aware of some of the challenges that Wakefield has and will continue to face but the Wakefield Bond Holders event today was extremely encouraging in terms of development opportunities.
So keep Wakefield in mind or let your clients know what’s available!
